Andrew worked at the University of Bristol from 2009-2025 in a range of knowledge exchange, innovation and impact roles. The University is known for spinout successes and has a strong reputation across all routes to impact.

From 2022-25, he was Director of Innovation, leading the development of Research Impact at the University. He worked across Faculties to identify how research can be applied, used and create impacts in the world. He was responsible for four teams – Impact Development, Research Commercialisation, Public Engagement, Policy Bristol – who build the partnerships, projects, and funding to make impact happen.

Andrew led the creation of 125 impact case studies for REF2021 and, in 2024, created a new REF Impact team to manage the portfolio for REF2029.

Prior to joining the University he worked in academic publishing, managing business partnerships and open access journals, and studied for a PhD in physics.
